Many teachers fail do a good job in the classroom because they do not have the ability to maintain a good classroom environment. A golden teacher must establish and maintain a positive classroom environment from day one. How does a teacher achieve this? From day one, students must learn and understand what the rules are in class. The teacher must reinforce such rules consistently. During the first week of school, the teacher must go over the classroom and school rules every day, making sure students fully understand what is expected of them. Managing classroom behavior starts from day one and has to continue everyday, all day long.
I. Not using progressions- You need to have a system where a sub can see what to teach the kids when you’re not there, to keep for legal purposes, and to show the parents how much their kids are learning. And, if you teach more than a few classes, how in the world can you remember what each class needs to do?
If you have to leave the class or event for some reason quietly apologize and go to the side and quietly leave the room if necessary. Do not wander about and distract or talk to people. And while we are at it. Shut off those cell phones. If you go back into the group, go to the back and quietly resume. Under no circumstances voice an opinion in a class or social instruction group. Do not voice an opinion in class. Try to focus on how this teacher can expand your dance and maybe social horizons. Do not compare openly to other teachers. Do not complain about how a movement is presented or that it is too difficult or easy.
To maintain this order, there must be standards, rules. God gave us ten to bring order to the entire planet, all the while giving us opportunities to fail or succeed by sprinkling us with free will. Jesus simplified the plan by giving us the Golden Rule. This rule turned the “shall nots” back onto the individual, who must first understand and love himself enough to extend that love and understanding to others. Conscience became the ruler of man.
People are free to be nude at the baths. Only the occasional person wearing a bathing suit seems somehow out of sync to me. People honor their own comfort level. Relaxation and soaking are good and healthful things to do. Massage and the baths really go together well.

It, like all of Esalen, is a happening and a place to work through stuff in one’s life. Some classes teach the elderly how they can now move — more slowly or differently and with less or no pain. The flavor of Esalen ranges from intense focused Tantric workshops — a gazing into your future mates eyes or an early morning meeting by Esalen’s staff to a room filled with canvas’s and artists to people clobbering each other with pillows or making strange noises or movements. The space is clean and clear (cleaned after every workshop at least) and infinitely higher vibrationally than ordinary existence (fast food restaurants and most of the places I use to hang out).
Raise your visibility – A second career success strategy for me was to consciously and persistently raise my profile, to get noticed, to have people see and experience what I can do to contribute to the organization. The most effective way to do this is to volunteer for interesting committee work. This allows you to gain visibility, learn new skills, meet and network with new people (hopefully a senior boss) and become a known entity. If internal committee work is not an option, then seek an activity in the volunteer sector. For instance, if you want to gain skills in human resources, then get involved in a not-for-profit board and volunteer for the HR committee.

This often works well because they will accept ownership of the rules. A few simple rules are easy to enforce and easily understood by the class.
